Background

After high school at Marie Curie Saigon, Vanessa left her native Vietnam for college in Liège (Belgium), then Caen (France), where she supported herself to a couple of degrees in Humanities and Communications. She stayed in France for 20 years before moving to the USA to be closer to her parents and siblings.

Professional Activities

Vanessa is an embodiment of activism and multi-tasking. Her daily routine typically relates to one or more of these positions:

  • Master of Ceremonies at various concerts and community events
  • Producer for the program “Đọc Truyện" (Audiobook) at Voice of America Radio (V.O.A)
  • News anchor/Program Host at Saigon TV, KXLA; then KJLA 57.5 broadcasted 24/7 nationwide program on satellite Galaxy
  • Family Advocate/Community outreach educator for the Organ Transplant Organization One Legacy, where she counsels donor families, and engages in public speaking to raise awareness, and inspire organ and tissue donation to save lives.
  • Advisory Commissioner of the District Attorney office
  • Ex-President of Lycee Marie Curie alumni association

Charity and Community Activities

Vanessa HongVan also devotes her time and effort to multiple charity work and humanitarian causes such as:

  • The Friends of the Lepers in Vietnam, to help raise funds for 11 consecutive years,
  • Teresa Charity Foundation, to provide food monthly to the poor seniors in Vietnam,
  • "Project Ngoc-Lan”, to help raise funds to save teenage girls in Vietnam from being sold to Cambodia, and to stop human trafficking in Asia

Recognitions

For her dedication and tireless works, Vanessa Hong-Van has been giving recognition many times before, by these organizations:

  • Certificate of Appreciation from Golden West College for providing supervision and counseling in the Cooperative Work Experience Program,
  • Certificate of Appreciation from OC Board of Supervisors for the Old County Courthouse Museum for her efforts to enrich our multicultural community,
  • Proclamation from City of Fountain Valley, Garden Grove and Westminster for community education and awareness about organ and tissue donation to save lives.
  • True Example Award from ATT for innovation, dedication in helping people, and Highest standard of Integrity,
  • Award of “2008 Asian Woman Community Leader” from the Asian American Business Women Association (A.A.B.W.A.)
